SA Water - Water Wise Measures
12 November 2015
Water Wise Measures acknowledge water is a precious commodity
and our water resources should not be taken for granted.
David Coombe, SA Water's External Relations Senior Manager, says
Water Wise Measures provide guidelines for efficient use.
"Water Wise Measures provide a common sense approach that allows
the community some flexibility in their water use," David said. "By
using water sensibly, customers will maximise the cost
effectiveness of their water use as well as assisting in
maintaining South Australia's water supplies."
Water Wise Measures allow for watering by hand at any time,
including hand held hoses, buckets or watering cans, as well as
drip-feed irrigation systems. Children can play under sprinklers or
with water toys attached to household hoses at any time of the day,
but be sure to turn off the water after the kids have finished
playing.
"Water Wise Measures also restrict the hosing down of paved
areas," David said. "Unless it is to protect public health, deal
with an emergency situation or ensure the health and safety of the
public or animals using the area, the community should avoid using
hoses on paved surfaces."
Water Wise Measures stipulates vehicles and boats must be washed
in a way that maximises water use. Where possible, park vehicles on
a lawn area before washing. Use a bucket, hand-held hose fitted
with a trigger nozzle or a high-pressure, low-volume water cleaner
to adhere to the Water Wise Measures.
"Penalties continue to apply for non-compliance with Water Wise
Measures," David said. "If customers have any questions about water
use, they can call the Water Wise Hotline on 1800 130 952. A
trained staff member in our Adelaide Customer Service Centre will
be able to answer your queries. The SA Water website also has
information which will assist in understanding Water Wise
Measures."
The whole community plays a part in conserving our water
resources. Do your bit this summer by being Water Wise.
